The agricultural sector plays a fundamental role in financing the food industrial sectors with the essential raw materials for that industry and is home to many job opportunities for a wide range of youth. Despite the allocation of 4,647.3 million dinars to support and develop the agricultural sector, its contribution to the gross domestic product did not exceed 10.6% at most in 1998. Agricultural lending plays the most important role in financing farmers with the necessary financial resources for fixed capital formations, as fixed costs are the largest bill that farmers have to pay to continue working in the agricultural sector. The study generally aimed to examine the impact of agricultural lending on agricultural development in the sector and to enhance its contribution to the gross domestic product. The study found that the average agricultural GDP during the study period (1990 – 2010) was around 1.317 billion Libyan dinars, with an average of agricultural loans granted by the agricultural bank of about 1.406 billion Libyan dinars. Agricultural lending was statistically significantly correlated with agricultural GDP at a rate of 66.3%, and the model was significant, as the variables of agricultural lending, employment, and investment had a significant impact on agricultural GDP, while the cultivated area and fixed capital formation did not affect agricultural output. Agricultural lending is associated with a coefficient of determination of about 0.53 over time, meaning that 53% of the changes occurring in lending are explained by changes over time, while the remainder is attributed to other factors, and agricultural lending increases by approximately 233 million Libyan dinars annually during the study period.
