رحلة امرئ القيس إلى بيزنطة

We do not expect a sensitive person like Imru' al-Qais to become a poet, in a way that makes his poetry a mere narrative that encompasses the events of his journey and the positions and incidents of his people and others, in a literary and scientific manner that conceals emotion, passion, and imagination, replacing them with analysis, deliberation, and rationality, in search of truth, in a time and place and environment where history was not written as prose but as poetry. I do not think any poet in the past or present, in the history of Arabic literature or other literatures, intended to make his poetry an exhibition of historical events, translated as abstract facts. Nevertheless, Imru' al-Qais provided the reader and researcher with sufficient and fulfilling historical and geographical references to make the journey a historical reality, and his poetry, as narrated about him, a truth that is hard to deny, echoing this journey through his poetic account of his Makkan journey, which also includes negative stances that reveal their owners, such as slander, betrayal, lies, and others.
